Each piece is designed and hand-fashioned with care and pride at MaDortay's Studio on the High Colorado Rockies.  They are one-of-a-kind creations to limited edition pieces (never more than five pieces in the same style).

*  Jewlery that takes its Inspiration from nature's play of color and light, shapes and textures, in the High Rockies of Colorado, to art forms in different cultures of the world.

Artist/Designer MaDorTay...
I cherish LIFE and LIVING LIFE CREATIVELY.  I enjoy people, animals and nature.  Life and living is an ongoing art as there are always new discoveries, exciting and frustrating learning curves, and growth, personally and professionally.  Colors, shapes and forms, textures, movements and sounds, friendships and relationships - these provide the impetus for me to create.  I love designing and creating jewelry and accessories for women and homes, as much as I enjoy reading and writing poems, doing fairy tale illustrations, playing the piano (imperfectly) and having fun family times with my kitty kid and husband.  Life has taken me quite a long way - from being a conservative banker in Asia to being a full-time wife, kitty-mom, and a recently diagnosed artist/designer in America.  Colorado's pristine mountain beauty and its long winters, as well as living in this mountain community of talented artists has drawn me to learn from these masters the art of flame-worked and fused glass, open-air raku, and quilting. Lately, it has been the self-discovered joy of polymer clay playing, chainmaille jewelry, and fabric painting that I find intriguing, and these new ventures are starting to take over the space in my loft studio.  What started out initially as a ministry of sharing and giving has gradually turned into a home-based business as more requests and custom orders from family, friends locally and overseas, and from my community started coming in. This marked the turning point and MaDorTay's designer jewelry line was launched in 2004.

MaDorTay is inspired by my memory of two cherished women in my life who has traveled ahead of me: Mama and my sister, Doris. Tay is my family name. Hence, the name MaDorTay. I liken them to jewels in my life – reflecting the outer, natural beauty of gemstones, as well as capturing in their innermost beings, the qualities attributable to these gemstones. * I see in my mother facets of an amethyst (for sincerity), bloodstone (for courage), garnet (for constancy), sapphire (for clear and calm thinking), and topaz (for fidelity). * Whenever I see a diamond (for innocence), an opal or a tourmaline (for eternal hope), I relate them all to my sister. These gemstones, from the the earth and molded by nature over time, are hardly ever perfect – just like my mother and sister. Yet each of these, nature’s gifts to us, is a marvel to behold, appreciate, and enjoy!
